Meetings are expensive — don’t waste people’s time!! Avoiding meeting if there is no compelling need to meet.When you do meet:
- Always provide a written agenda
- Circulate in advance to allow for preparation
- Stick to start and stop times — this can be challenging in some organizations if being on time isn't a cultural norm, but you'll be well-served in the long run if you develop a reputation as someone who respects others' time enough to meet this commitment
- When "homework" is required in order to be prepared for the meeting:
- Verify that it’s been done — holding people accountable is a big part of your job as a PM
- Be sure you have done your own — your credibility is always on the line!
- Take your own minutes
- Note action items — what, when, by whom
- Record results of votes, not counts
