Control: Bridging the Gap
Control: Bridging the Gap
There will always be differences between the project plan and reality (actuals). Some of these differences are related to:
- Human elements
- Events can negatively affect people — think about Buzz Lightyear discovering that he's just a toy and the effect that discovery has on him
- Emotions affect activities — when things are going well and everyone's motivated, you can get a lot done in a hurry... and when they aren't going as well.... hmmm...
- The PM has to be careful — interceding and correcting implies criticism, and NOBODY likes criticism!
- Mechanistic elements
- Processes may need to be revised to enable tasks to be completed on time
- Equipment may need to be adapted to better serve the project's needs
