Active Learning in the Flipped Classroom: Topics

This part of the course gives an introduction to the concept of Active Learning. We also reflect on the techniques for active learning that the participants already use in the classroom, and what they would like to develop further.

Flipped Learning is a pedagogical approach in which direct instruction moves from the group learning space to the individual learning space, and the resulting group space is transformed into a dynamic, interactive learning environment where the educator guides students as they apply concepts and engage creatively in the subject matter. This part of the course also involves exercises in producing recorded material.

The best way to incorporate the ideas of active learning and flipped classroom into a course, is to start from scratch and design the course with these concepts in mind. There are several ways to do this, and one excellent tool is the ABC Learning Design toolkit.
